Who we are

Our Story

The Kaanbal Suut Program is an initiative created in 2021 by Fondo Mexicano para la Conservación de la Naturaleza, A.C. with the support of The David and Lucile Packard Foundation that arises from the interest of strengthening the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and networks in the Yucatan Peninsula to promote their success in advancing impacts on the conservation and sustainability of natural resources in a strategic way. Since 2022, the Program is operated by Sureste Sostenible, A.C.

What do we do?

The Program strengthens the capacities and leadership skills of a diverse group of Civil Society Organizations to improve the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources at a regional level, through the combination of different topics, approaches and learning methodologies. Its design is innovative and incorporates the main social, economic, and environmental challenges faced by the Mexican society in the Yucatan Peninsula, particularly since the impact of COVID-19.

Every year, 20 civil society organizations are selected to be part of the Program’s generation. The participating organizations are civil associations, alliances, collectives, cooperatives, and networks. The training cycle lasts one year and is divided into five modules: Strategic Planning, Financial Sustainability, Human Resources, Risk Management (security, fiscal, technology), and Communication. In addition, a Community space is facilitated once a month in which all the cohorts interact and exchange knowledge.
